Default Which accesories do you need to hardwire the PASSPORT 8500

1- Direct wire cord (telephone style jack)
2- SmartCord-Direct Wire

Default Neither. Use a telephone wire. Here's how.

When viewed from the end of the RJ-11 (telephone) connector the pins you need are:

2nd from left is +12V
3rd from left is GND

I recommend you put an inline fuse (3 amp) on the power lead or connect to an unused fuse in the fusebox.

Default Get the Direct Wire Smart Cord

The advantage of this over the DIY telephone wire suggested below is that it comes with a remote mute button. I mounted mine just to the right of the center console, just behind the windshield wiper controls. So, I don't have to move my hands far from the steering wheel to mute the detector.

Default I have used one of those. Gave up on it.

It is truly a poor-man's remote. It is hard to mount where it looks good and is easy to reach. And it didn't provide much benefit.

Default Then that's all you need...

Plug the spade connector into the fuse box and wire the ground loop to a screw or bolt and then all you have to do is tuck the wires between the A-pillar/headliner and the windshield.
