Prolly because many people have determined that the FMIC doesn't cause overheating...
therefore this tiny oil cooler can't cause over heating either.
Obvioulsy the FMIC statment leaves a lot of room for discussion though.

FMIC air isn't as hot as oil, right? Oil cooler radiator will be hotter (?)...
granted it's much smaller but the reduced airflow coupled with high heat just makes me ask the question.

Questions answered!
The little bit of radiator cooling that is blocked is totally overcome by the dramatically lower oil temps. FYI, the built in oil cooler runs its heat exchange though the coolant. This means that if you're running hot oil, that oil is actully heating the coolant further. This kit reduces/elimanates that problem and thusly elimates any concern about the small reduction in cool air flow to the radiator.
I'm 99.99% sure that this kit uses the stock filters. If you're really concered, I can double check.
Thanks for all the responses. If anyone has any more specific quesions, please email them directly to public AT sterling247 DOT com
I'm on the road right now and websurfing is a PITA via a treo, will email is no-prob.
TIA!

Ding. It is tiny, therefore, how can it yield such positive results?
Keeping the temp under 225 degrees with higher than average ambiant temps + aggressive driving is a "heat-tastic" thing to overcome.

I've had this same Oil cooler on now for about a year. it works.
have it mounted flush with the radiator, Oil temps now run 25-30 degree's cooler at least. Tracked it at Raod America last year running pretty high speeds, the oil temps never went over 250 Peak. I use the same stock oil filter also. Hope this helps.

the size is determinded by how much cooling you want...
if the core is too large, the oil will never get to operating temp, and/or the thermostat will always be cycling on and off, and reducing the effectivness of the whole unit.
also note, this cooler kit is much larger than the OE RS4 unit.
really you're looking to knock 20-50 degreess off of the oil temp, not like an intercooler, where you're going for as cool as possible. with oil you have a defined goal, and this kit meets that goal quite nicley.
