Advice about engine swap

My car is getting up there in miles (~90k). I put on about 30K/year now. It needs the timing belt service and will probably need a clutch soon.
I, of course, have always wanted to go Stg3 with this car but wasn't going to pull the engine just for that. But now I can do TB, clutch, turbos and DPs all at once.
I have been thinking about getting an engine and doing all the work on it out of the car, then swapping to minimize downtime. I figure I can sell my engine for whatever I pay for the replacement.
What do you think? Am I going to be putting $15K into a car that is only worth $15K to begin with? Worth it?

My engine with 90k on the clock still had the factory hone visible on the cylinder walls.
If you want to do a really intense build-up of an engine, buying a spare is warranted... but if you just want to go stg3, I can think of better ways to spend your money!

exhaust cams had to be polished and all cam followers where bent and scratched.
But i agree with you that no extra engine is need it. Check your cam and followers, if it looks good you should be fine.

that any engine you buy will be, to some extent, an unknown to you and that whoever buys your engine will also have to view your engine as an unknown. In other words, you are bound to loose something on the deal. Obviously you need to weigh that cost against the convenience.
Oh, also, unless you are planning on doing the internals, there really isn't a lot of savings. The engine you buy is unlikely to come with accessories. So really you are just talking about the time to swap turbos and down-pipes. To do basic stuff on these cars doesn't take long at all.
