After shut down, I no longer hear fan going under hood? Are the turbos not being cooled down?

Default After shut down, I no longer hear fan going under hood? Are the turbos not being cooled down?

Recently (within the past week) I've noticed that whenever I shut down my car, there is no fan noise coming from the hood anymore. The car just turns...off.
Then tonight, I noticed that when I turn the engine off, there's a brief clanking noise before the engine shuts down. Just to make sure I wasn't hearing things, I turned the car on again and then off again. Same clanking noise!
Would these two things be related?

Default No, they're not related. Your fan could've died or the relay **** the bed. BUT, the fan does not

cool the turbos, so don't sweat that. The turbos are cooled by A) a fresh oil supply when the engine is running, and coolant (different passages, obviously.) That's why an afterrun kit from ECS Tuning is so popular, it keeps the coolant elect. aux pump running after you shut down the car keeping everything including the turbos cool.

Default I read somewhere that the aux. pump runs automatically after shut down even w/o tt...

It was on a thread where there was a debate on whether or not a tt is worth the money to get. Some said that it's not necessary b/c the S4 already automatically runs the aux pump to cool down the turbos after shut down, which is what I always thought the sound was after I turn off my car. Now I don't hear anything...

Default Well, that's not really true. It does run, but the stock thermoswitch is set so high, that you'd

have to have damn near an engine fire for it to energize the relay. ECS' kit, lowers the threashold of the thermoswitch to reasonable levels, so it runs nearly everytime you drive the car.
