And find that if you don't over oil the filter, your MAF will be just fine.

the difference in our cars is that we don't have to be "super" modded in order to flow lots more air

A simple boost adjustment will increase the air requirements quite a bit.

Although I'm all for letting LESS dirt into the engine.
