Alcon shimming help needed

I have one of the S4s that require shims to line up the B type calipers on the front rotors.
Acheiving dead center line up has been unsuccessful so far. I have put the stock brakes back on. I have used two washers of different thicknesses, and the size I need for optimum line up is somewhere in between. Todd sent me out some shims, which I have yet to install, but they are the same thickness as one of the washers I have.
Does the rotor face have to be absolutely dead center in the caliper? Or is it acceptable for the rotor to be slightly off center, as long as the amount off center measures the same at the top and at the bottom of the caliper? I would think you want the pad surface to be in a perfectly parallel plane with relationship to the rotor face.
Thanks!

As long as the pads don't drag and have SOME clearance, everything will work fine, the pistons will "center" the pads (one piston moving slightly further than the other) on first brake press.
That's the way I installed Warren ****'s, anyway. I got close with off-the-shelf washers, but it was still a few thou off. But both pads had plenty of clearance.
Yes, the pads need to be perfectly parallel to the rotor, same measure at top and bottom of pad to rotor!<p>Jim De Arras
