All this phallic competition over whose car is faster has gotten quite boring and irritating.

Default you are def right. i don;t ignore noobs, but when i try and make buying decisions and stuff

that pertains to my motor running safely, i will look for the gurus more than the noobs. i am not baggin on the noobs at all.....hell, i am a noob for the most part. 3 years on AW and i have less posts than some have in a month

Default I'm approaching 80k on mine, have had K04s for a long time

and have been chipped since the day I bought the car. The motor itself has been flawless - idles perfect, perfect compression still.

The bottom end is solid, the top end is not bad either. I don't know how people can say they're not going to be 'reliable' with zero proof.

The only engine failures I have seen on this board are related to poor installation of timing belts and mis shift.

Supra's come to mind. Many people go well over 600whp on stock internals for 80-100k miles - and they don't let go. Hell, they're putting down 800-900whp with stock bottom end.

How can you say the S4 isn't going to be good for 350-400whp? Audi pretty much designed this motor to handle double the stock HP. For how long - who knows. You can ask why the RS4 has different internals - double the horsepower of that vs. the S4 and you'll understand. We're not trying to make near 800hp. BTW - Its pretty well known how well they build the bottom ends.

Default I wouldn't use Supra as a reference point. Straight six is the best-balanced configuration

V6 vertainly isn't.

I'm not saying that all 2.7t engines pushing high power are gonna blow. But there isn't any proof of reliability either.

I very much doubt that VAG designs their engines with double stock power in mind. They would not stay in business if they did.

IMO, of course

Default I wouldn't be so quick to think they didn't build their motors like that...

If you look at the spec's on the hardware in the engine - 6 bolt main? Forged internals? The stud's, etc - aren't 'weak' by any means.

True on the Supra's though - I am just saying that its possible to get some seriously strong motors - from the factory.

Default Actually, we ran the same spark plugs for two seasons, changed the oil every other race...

and that was about it. There is nothing really to maintain.
