17927 - Camshaft Adjustment; Bank 1: Malfunction
16725 - Camshaft position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal

Driving normally going home, down-shifted from 4->3 (@3800-ish rpms) getting off the freeway and something happened. Idles and sounds horrible. I had it towed the last few miles home.

Timing belt (full everything) was changed 4-5 months ago, put about 10K on it since. Didn't sound like metal on metal, so maybe I'm lucky and the belt slipped a few teeth...

To top things off, all my tools are locked in a friends garage and he just left town this morning for the weekend.

Default Yikes, hope it's a slipped tooth. Or maybe if you're really lucky...

it's just a bad camshaft position sensor given the "implausible signal"?...wishful thinking? Happened to me.

did your engine idle / sound relatively normal with the bad sensor?

Default Yep, it did. When they pulled the sensor, it was positively caked with..

deposits. Swapped it with a new one and viola..everything to spec. Couldn't remember the log block, 015 I think? or 093, damn, I can't remember. Okay, found one of the codes:

17755 P1347 Bank2,Crankshaft-/Camshaft os.Sens.Sign. Out of Sequence

It was reading +16/+15, a crazy number. Should be +- 6 max, if I remember correctly. You're stumbling idle is a bad sign my friend. Good luck.

Where are you located? If you take it to a shop, $1500 is my guestimate.

Default I was trying to encourage you :P haha I would rather think positively until there...

are some hard numbers and definite diagnostics. Until then, I say you just slipped a tooth, didn't bend any valves or damage any pistons, and it will be <$1500 to fix
