Am I the only one who is underwhelmed by the B6 S4?

Never did care for B6 styling
I think the car performs and is priced to match its current market, but the B5 is just much better looking inside and out. Of course that is very subjective. I am very wary of this backwards V8. Audi/VW engineering seems to eclipse its manufacturing ability. I hope these far too frequent drivetrain failures are not portending a trouble prone future.

I'm just wondering which car u think is the benchmark of its class...
b/c its obviously not the S4 in any style and dont tell me the M3 b/c its not a Sedan. I'm tired of the comparison, although still flattered that the mags cant resist comparing the 2. And as far as the M5 its simply not in its price range. So let me guess its the Merc C32. I am getting the impression you are not happy with the old S4 or the new one, which was not the point of this thread...c'mon fess up.

You're guessing wrong.
And I'm guessing that you are relatively new to this forum, because what I alluded to were people who came to this forum about a year ago, and said that reliable sources within Audi had told them that the new S4 would 1) be 360 horsepower, and 2) weigh in between 3400-3500 pounds.
I am saying that the fact it did neither is a disappointment. That is my opinion. This is a forum for expressing opinions. Other people, including *current* B5 and B6 S4 owners, have also expressed disappointement with the car's performance.
Yes, I regard the M3 as setting the performance benchmark in the entry-level luxury category. Benchmark means "the standard by which others are judged", and it clearly outperforms the other cars in its class (S4, C32, Volvo whatever), including the C32, in acceleration, braking, and handling.
And I hate to bust your bubble, but I am no big fan of the C32. I drove it, and while its straightline performance is quite impressive, its handling is not quite on a par with what I wanted. Had my choice been limited to C32, M3, and S4, I probably would have gotten the M3. Happily, I had an even better alternative.
Obviously, I was not 100% happy with my S4, or I would not have sold it. Doesn't mean I hated it, or anything close to that.

I rarely get over there...
...I have a hard enough time keeping up with posts here on the S4 Forum. Plus, I try to follow a couple of mountain biking forums as well.

I guess those "reliable" resources weren't quite so reliable and
I'm not sure what your point is either way. So in other words if the next M5 doesn't match the whopping 550hp that is rumored, BMW enthusiast should automatically be dissapointed? And your still skirting the question of what you believe is the benchmark OF ITS CLASS. If the M3 is your answer, i have to tell you, I think its a cop out. Can you name a SEDAN that on an overall rating beats out the S4? And btw I generally like your post and find them informative (and I respect your opinion) but this is a forum for enthusiast and to be honest, you dont sound like one, at least not an Audi enthusiast.
