Is any DOT4 brake fluid OK for top off?

The brake system is a closed system. As the pads wear, the fluid level in the reservoir drops. If you top it off and then replace the pads, you risk overflowing the reservoir. Unless the light is on, I would avoid it. If you need to, add just enough to reach the minimum. If you are on the track, you might need a bit more to prevent the light from going on during cornering. But remember to add as little as possible.

Going to put it up tonight and figure out where it's coming from, then fix accordingly. I just want to top off the system and so I have plenty of fluid to look for, and I might have to drive it to a shop this weekend so I want her completely topped off.
This happened about the same time as my clutch slave cylinder appears to have failed - any chance these two issues are related?
