Default Any reason why my car has problems sometimes getting into 1st gear? I havn't had any slippage ...

just sometimes sitting at a light, 1st is locked out. The same goes for reverse (moreso).

Do I need my SS adjusted?

TIA from a n00b!

Default every VAG car i've had had problems getting into 1st and R. adjusting could help, changing the...

fluid might help too.

i'm just somewhat accepting of it and sometimes launch from second when i can't get the car into first fast enough (when rolling).

i also find if i put the car into second (just engage, no need to let out clutch), then it'll go into R easier. this helped on my 86 GTi as well. it's habit now.

but in this car sometimes it just plain won't go into R unless the wheels move a bit.

Default Sometimes the syncrhos don't line up. I've had this happen on Corvettes, too...

shift into second, before shifting into first (if it gets locked up at a light.) By shifting into 2nd, the synchros will budget a bit and you'll be able to get into 1st.

Default Might be your clutch. I had the same problem and it got progressively worse. At one point

I had no reverse and I had to fight with the shifter to get it into first. Try adjusting you SS first.

Default Could be syncros but not likely (unless it grinds alot) I would lean towards te adjustment of...

your SS. I had the same problem and tweaked with the SS and all was fine. I think it was 7 degrees back and 3 degrees to the left? The other bolt (using your allen wrench of course) should be adjusted towards the middle) New tranny fluid wouldn't hurt either.

No grinding whatsoever. Just had the brake fluid flushed and replaced with Motul 600 RBF. )
