Is 20% the legal max in NJ. Also where did you get it done and what kind of tint. Lastly, how much should I expect to pay to get this done?

In NJ you are not allowed to have tint on the windshield, driver's side window or passenger side window. So this leaves the rear window and back seat side windows.
Everything else you do at your own risk. Plenty of people seem to get away with it, but not all.
