Default How about a log or two without the fender liners...

if IATs drop appreciably, cut away. If not, just put 'em back intact.

Default I've seen this done, a guy by the name of EddieFit back from the old days.

His car was pretty fast for Stage 2 or 2+ at that time.

Default I think you want to make a change of scale close to what you'd be doing

if you were to cut the wheel well liner. Completely removing the liner is well beyond cutting some holes. I don't think the results of removing the liner would correlate very well with making some additional small holes. No harm in trying it out though just to see what happens.

What's the scoop on that pressure gauge? A decent gauge would very handy to have.

Default Thinking out loud-How about trying to suck out some of the air more effectively? On many...(long)

aircraft we face a similar situation. We force air in through the cowl for engine cooling but getting it out is a little tougher.

Some have used NACA ducts in reverse as suction but I cannot see this working in the IC situation, but for the aircraft cleaning up the exit really helps in the cooling and as importantly it helps our speed. There is a ton of drag up in the cowling.

On the aircraft that I am building many also use a plenum set up for cooling and to increase speed/cooling. Smaller cowling inlet holes, more efficient cooling, and increased speed. I am sure with a lot of work something like this could be done with the IC's.

OK- sorry for thinking out loud.

Attached is a link to a photo of the smaller inlet holes on a similar aircraft to mine

photo of smaller inlets

it might help, but will anyone notice it, my guess is no. plus the intercoolers will get dirtier.

Default That's essentially what the original post was asking about doing. Lowering the

ambient pressure on the back side of the IC so that the air flows through more easily. I think the idea is sound, but in practice I don't know if there's an easy way to realize meaningful gains.

Default Yea- I know and you are most likely correct about holes not doing it. I am guessing by your user...

name that you too fly and know just what I am talking about. If we wanted to get really fancy and take a lot of time I am sure that someone could come up with a really slick set up.

But I don't know if the time to benefit equation is worth it.
