Default Anyone appealed a speeding ticket in Connecticut before?

Was pulled over for driving 81 on a 65. Pissed me off. Everyone is driving around 80 on the highway.

Court date is early feb. Anyone got any ideas to help me out?

Default yep, I do it almost every time :(

basically, go in, admit your guilt of speeding, casually mention that you were going with the flow of traffic, and say that you were hoping that the fine could be reduced or changed to a non-moving violation, etc.

They won't have your prior info in front of them, but if you haven't had any tickets, or any tickets in a while, mention that.

let's see, 81/65, that should be $279, right?

IIRC,
70-74 = $199
75-79 = $239
80-84 = $279

someone recently had their $279 dropped to $100. I had a $199 dropped to $50, etc

Good luck!

Default They lowered it to $150 from $279. It was for 81 in a 55.

But they told me that they didn't have the authority to reduce the violation... just the amount.

Default Yup. Mine is for $279.

So eventhough they lower the price, it still affects your driving points?

Default Are you CT licensed? There's no real point system in CT

If you get 3 tickets within 3 years, you have to go to driver's school. Then, 1 ticket in the following year and you go back again, etc.

no points to speak of

Howdy! I fight near every ticket I receive, somewhat of a court warrior by now, but with CT tickets they have an interesting system. Read the back of the ticket about pleading guilty and paying. Several years ago you could pay the ticket in full and get no points and NO notification to your home state, mine being NY which does have reciprocity with CT. I paid in full and never saw any points in NY or insurance increases. If you have a CT license it may be different, but from out of state it should work as I mentioned above unless they changed their methods again. A great way to make money for CT, pay in full and no retribution in your home state or on your insurance bill.

I did not fight my 85 in a 65 from CT and laid out $279, so far it's been 3-4 years without any issues.

Check that ticket, if the system has changed fight it and look at the NMA website for assistance.

Good Luck,

Default I've appealed and paid CT tickets with a CT license and never had an insurance issue (knock on wood)

I'd like to hear someone speak up that *has* had the points transfered. Just because you paid in full and didn't get points in another state, doesn't mean that if you hadn't paid in full, you would have had them transfer, ya know?

And yes, I have read something similar to what you mention, and that's why I said "there's no real point system". They do make reference to something, but I've never seen proof of it's existance

Howdy! I called the state of CT offices about the scenario of fighting, taking a deal, or getting it knocked down. They then said the fine would be less, but indeed I would get points popped onto my record. I asked if I paid in full would I see any points, answer was no. So if I had fought and won outright, impossible since I got tagged on a clear day with a dead on laser hit, I wouldn't have paid anything and gotten no points, but if I fought and deadled/knocked the charge down I would see point, if I didn't fight and paid in full no points. A great way for CT to just collect money and save time with court cases.

It may be possible to fight, get a deal, and still see no points. I was sick of court and the idea of no points for full payment sounded too good.

I've had points transferred from VA to NY, furthest state away that I have ever gotten a ticket in. All the NE states I have tickets in have done nothing. Reciprocity seems not to work very well, but just wait until state's do not handle that and the feds get a national database, fight it!

Cheers,
