Default Anyone else have the stick-on wheel balance weights fall off in cold, wet weather?

I have had my wheels balanced *so* many times this winter. The weights hold on for maybe a day, then I can hear them flying off and hitting the wheel well (who knows what else they hit).

Good thing for Discount Tire unlimited free balance & rotate.

Default Waxed surface?

They aren't cleaning the surface properly. Mine never come off.

I suspect that they don't clean it at all. I'm tempted to provide some solvent and a hair dryer

Default I once had a guy take steel wool to the inside of my aluminium wheels.

When I complained, he told me his wheel weights were expensive and he didn't want to waste any. :-/

Speed shops will clean the area, and put metal tape over the weights as well.

Default The balance weight adhesive does not work too well in freezing temperatures

Cleaning with a paint prep degreaser and hitting the area with a heat gun to warm up the contact surface then putting pressure on the weight for a minute or 2 should help, just be cautious with the heat gun.

Does it weigh enough to upset the balance? Should I provide it for the balance shop?

I remove and wash my wheels before taking them up to the shop (in the back of the other car)

hardly weighs anything. Just tape over the weight after they are done.
