Default They lowball bigtime.
They offered me $19,000 on my Audi A8 a couple of years ago. I sold it to someone a few weeks later for $26,000.

Default Compared to trade-in they do pretty good
They offered me $9600 for my 2000 GMC Sierra while the Nissan dealership would only offer me $8500. I showed them the Carfax quote and they agreed to match it.

I know two other folks who have gotten very good quotes from Carmax. But you can almost always make more if you sell it to an individual.

Default Beat trade-in even with sales tax savings for me on my wife's Millenia...
...and I used the Carmax quote to get the dealer to match it on my A4 trade-in for my S4.
