Default anyone get a *thunking* noise when the clutch engages??

This is my first day with the S4 and I noticed that if I don't feather the clutch, I get a noticeable thunk coming from underneath the car.

Could this be the problem that the driveline stabilizer would fix?

Default Yo, Izz .... y'all just need to give her a little more gas when you start.

nothing to be afraid of.

Default Here may be an explanation-

When the AC is on, the additional load on the engine causes the revs to drop
quickly once the clutch is engaged during an upshift. If you don't shift very quickly, minimizing the rev drop, the flywheel is spinning at a considerably lower rate than the clutch in the higher gear by the time they contact each other at clutch engagement. This relatively large differential in rotational speeds causes a clunk as the drivetrain equilibrates the flywheel and clutch speeds. One solution is to maintain engine (flywheel) speed during a shift by blipping the throttle, or not releasing the throttle *as much* during a shift as you normally would.

To determine if this is the problem you're experiencing, turn your AC off (hit the "ECON" button on the climate control panel) and see if the problem continues.

Default hmmmm...

if you don't 'feather' it at all, the whole car probably makes noises... with the quattro system moving power around and all.. and with EDL possible making noises (which are unmistakable once you hear them). If you feel something 'in' the pedal, then there's a problem. It should be silky smooth on the S4. My pedal made a click.. I hated it. If the car makes noises that sound 'abnormal', then they probably are.
Good luck

Default Yes! The stabilizer will completely eliminate the thunk.

You will not need to think about smooth clutch engagement anymore with the stabilizer. It makes it easy.

Default Thanks for all the info guys...

I can't wait for the driveline stabilizer to come out now. I was playing around with it today tried a couple of the suggestions...

Giving it more gas seemed to 'fix' the problem and turning the A/C off also helped it become much less noticable.

I'm still very happy with my car though.
