I just got a CD changer to install today and I am told that it helps to remove the side liner next to where the CD changer goes to get better access to the screws.

I installed one last weekend using the instructions in the tech section for the A6. I didn't completely remove the panel. I took it loose at the back and left in attached at the rear seat. You will be able to pull it out enough to gain access to all the bolts in the mounting bracket. I removed the changer bracket from the car so I could put in the 4 bolts for the changer. Don't remove the front bolt holding the bracket in, just loosen it and slide the bracket out. Everything is pretty straight forward. Don't forget to change the orientation of the changer to Horizontal. Good Luck!
