Default damn. someone posted a link not too long ago. i need to save some of these things.

basically it said cryo was good and helped longevity in materials that wouldn't be reheated as hot as brake rotors.

a good session on the brakes will basically reverse the effects of the cryo treatment.

I wish the search engine on this board didn't suck so much.

Default I'll add to it, I AM a Materials Science PhD researcher at UC Davis...

and I've looked at both with SEM and TEM as an undergraduate at Cal Poly SLO. There is no difference. In fact, just do a simple hardness test.

BTW if you look at a phase diagram for Fe-C alloys, you'll see that the phase you have at room temp. is stable. There is no lower temp. phase which can form by large-scale displacement like the martensitic reaction. The only other way for a crystal change to occur is by diffusion, and at room temp or below, its just kinetically impossible.

I don't mean to come off as arrogant or pontificating, I just REALLY get annoyed by these type of claims. Please don't waste your money on crap like this.

sweet...nice info man...my dad is into this kind of stuff.

so, people are just messing with their stock rotors then? rather than getting a new casted rotor?

I've installed many on police cars, and it does help, *a little* with warpage.

Default I'm with you!

No hurry, not looking to waste money. I'd be ecspecially interested in the weight savings. I'm sure the cryo treatment doesn't hurt anything, there are a lot of professional teams that swear by it. I'm looking for something that will hold up to track days (hopefully half a dozen/summer) and save a little weight.

Thanks!

I'll see what non-oem alternatives I can find.

Default I like to thank Vonk, FunkW, Fletch, and everyone else for the education =)

So...back to the beginning.

What rotors are out there besides OEM S4 ones?
