right, so brillo is probably too soft. I will have to try my rutsy wire wheel brush then!

Default I still think you should try sandpaper - much more control over the surface finish...

...a lot slower, but fast isn't necessarily better!

Best,

I agree, take your time with sandpaper.

I don't remember LOL. OE brushed mirrors are outrageously priced. So yeah... I'm all about the DIY

Default Basically what others said. You need to be sure they are aluminum. If OEM then OK. Then you can

sand off whatever protective coating is on them then sand them unidirectionally to achieve the brushed look. I am personally not sure of what grit to use as I haven't done this. Once you have a brushed look, use a high quality clear coat and your done.

I was serious. If you are concerned, start with brass--it is much softer,

Default I did... used B5 S4 mirrors, stripped off the epoxy-like clear coat from the factory with 200 grit..

Then used 400 grit and a ScotchBrite pad to brush the surface evenly.... Getting all the clearcoat off is KEY!... Then get it professionally clearcoated, but make sure they prep it, because any dust in the surface will cause the paint to peel.

Pic below after they got back from clearcoating, next to the factory covers.
