Anyone know of an inexpensive new K03 supplier?

Or you should be able to, and probably what he is investigating. One simple notion is that the K04s require $600 inlet pipes that replacing the K03s do not. If the turbos are the same price, you're at least saving that amount. If K03s are cheaper, then you're also saving more on top.
That being said, a friend has blown K03s and is in a tight financial situation. I've suggested he go with K04s due to the cost similarity, but more for the reliability. Much better to spend an extra $1000 on K04s now, and avoid having to pay $4800 later to replace another set of blown K03s. and of course, it naturally leaves the door open to further upgrades as well

K04s should have a full turbo back exhaust upgrade, correct?
So $600 difference between K03 and K04
$1500 for downpipes
$1000 for cat back
Total $3100
Of course I could piggy the downpipes ($300) and get a used cat back for $600-700...But that is still $1500 more!
And my car has 165k miles on original K03, so I don't think K03s are too bad.

recommended for more power.......definatley but not a must for K04's.
Just do piggies while the engine is out and you can always do the catback later on down the road if you deem it necessary.
The K04's are going to cost slightly more than a good set of used K03's.....and they'll require inlet pipes but those are the only cost increases for necessary parts.
