Anyone know what the potentiometer like sensors are for on the drivers side suspension

Anyone know what the potentiometer like sensors are for on the drivers side suspension
front and aft? I replaced my suspension this weekend, and saw them in there. It looks like they measure either suspension position, or possibly some kind of load sensor. What would the car do with this information?
