APR Chip
OK. I still haven't gotten an answer about this...
IF I get the APR chip with the mutliple settings, is it true that the dealership will not know OR be able to test OR re-program OR open the ECU/chip?

925 is right
A) they can open the ECU and bust you
B) if they suspsect anything, they often know the tricks with the cruise control shaft to enable your chip program, I've heard of this a bunch of times
C) if they download the chip program, they can send it to AoA and compare it against stock, which will bust you
Obviously, these are not all common occurances...but why take chances? Get that stock ECU and sleep well at night

have you spoken with your dealer about modding the car?
Some dealerships will actualy work with you. Not all are so quick to point fingers at the chip. Maybe you should talk to your service advisor about this.
And remember......when you cheat the dealer into warranty work that they shouldn't be held responsible for, you end up hurting us ALL! (another reason Audi went N/A for the next gen S4).

I agree with everything except one point...
I think the tuners encrypt their programs mostly to keep other tuners from pirating it. However, I'm pretty sure this would keep Audi from downloading it as well. You are correct on the major point though; take your car in with a chipped ECU and you are easily busted.

Most dealer techs know how to change programs with the cruise control stalk...
I'm not sure what happens if you have the security lock-out feature...ie: no CE blinking at all or not - I have no idea...but, I think the only way to avoid a problem is to buy an extra ECU and change back every time you go in...the first time I went in for service after getting chipped (I did not buy an extra ECU) - I was in stock mode with the APR chip - the tech comes out and says "Man is that car fast in chipped mode!" - I'm sure every tech tries to change with the cruise control stalk "just to see"....
