Default APR Chip Problems

I got an APR chip at their picnic on Mar 1st. Ten days later as I was driving to lunch the engine died after taking off from a traffic light. It eventually started, ran about 12 mins and died again. I sent the ecu back and APR said that everything worked fine on their test bench. But, they changed the "module" anyway. Now, I'm waiting to get the ecu back.

Has anyone had any problems like this? Any advice if the new "module" doesn't fix it? Thanks.

Does your car run fine with the factory ECU?

Default What year is your car?

I had a very similar experience with my '02 S4 about 2 months after my 1st APR chip. Engine would cut out at speed and occasionally be very difficult to start. I took the car in to my dealer who replaced the ECU under warranty (with the chip). APR was pretty responsive and gave me a deep discount replacement. I've now been running for about a year with the 2nd ECU and have a different issue. A relatively minor fault code has the dreaded "check engine" indicator on. I found a great guy, Scott, in my area who hooked up a VAG to determine the reason for the check engine indicator. In addition to the evaporation sensor intermittant response fault (which he erased) I have a "check sum error" fault that can't be erased. Again, APR and their Chicago-area dealer, MotoPersona, have been very helpful. Swapping the stock chip back into the ECU indicates that the problem is in the ECU itself. So I'm back to the dealer tomorrow and expect that they'll replace the ECU again. My ECU is a T-box. I'd suggest you put the stock chip back in and take the car to your dealer.

I have an 01 S4. I don't have a spare ECU. I just got the ECU back today and am keeping my fingers crossed. It worked OK for the 30 mins or so I drove it. We'll see. Thanks for the input.
