Some moron delivery van driver rammed into me while we were stuck in Midtown Manhattan yesterday (we were both stopped for 3+ min., and all of a sudden, he just decides to take off).
Anyway, he put a 1"X1" gouge (about 1/5" deep) gouge in my rear bumper (on top of 2 license-plate screw gouges I had previously). Since my car only has 2k mi. on it, I was angry and I threatened to file a police report and got his insurance info. But then we haggled and I got $40 out of him in lieu of a police report.
Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to have this damage fixed professionally, so that I know how much $ to ask for next time? In the meanwhile, I did a very amateur job of patching it up with contour putty and touch-up paint.
I don't want to install one of those ugly rubber bumper guards, but I may just have to since morons seem to enjoy gouging my bumper.<p>2000 Silver S4

I had the same problem in NYC, although this was in my garage though. I had only a few K miles on mine as well. I had to have my whole bumper redone. Cost me about $300 which I got a break on because the guy was a family friend, looks like new, can't tell there was anything wrong.

Just a suggestion... you drive an S4... in the world of body shops... you really get what you pay for unless you know the guy... really well...
Good luck with your car and happy driving...<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=4329"><img SRC="http://www.netdrive.com/MyDrive/get.jsp/%7Elchao/My%20Pictures/chaotic-s4.jpg" BORDER=0></a>
