Default ARRRGH! 1 week to VIR and I do this. Is this tire shot?

I only installed them this weekend and they only have less than 5K miles on them.

Whatever I hit took out the rim protector and some of the sidewall. It would be a bad idea to track this huh?

Get a new tire, quickly. Repair the rim afterwards.

Default reminds me of this ...

which I picked up *at* Pocono. The tire is very thick there (this nail did not penetrate through to the inside). Still, I'd get a new tire before tracking.

i think it's track-able...but the Tech Inspectors might not agree. ;-)

Default My Pilot Sports had a chunk missing from the rim protector...

and the draconian tech inspectors w/PCA said it was fine to run on since the chunk was only in the rim protector and not the sidewall of the tire. I ran the tire at quite a few events and didn't have any issues. I wouldn't recommend anyone else do what I did.

Default well, I think you should try it but make sure you have a spare...

that is the same size.
I ran a race with a different tire once. They said it was ok.
It is your own risk to run these tires. make sure you keep them real dirty so when you tech, they would not notice.
good luck at VIR
