Default Ash tray help!

I put too many coins in my ashtray, some apparently fell out the back, and now the ashtray is stuck closed.

Any idea how to unstick it? What has to be removed to reach it?

Thanks.

Anyone know if there is a proper coin holder that could fit there?

Default Never mind, I got it!

Took the boot panel out, and was able to grip the tray and pull it open. Then, I could see the offending coin, and used a popcycle stick with a dab of tar on it to stick the coin and pull it out.

All went back together fine!

Default A recommendation as the ultimate coin holder, or should I say...

cuff.

While in Italy, we came apon coin cuffs (think shaped like a hoof, and opening like a book). this coin cuff, or hoof, will hold an unbelievable amount of change (and many have an additional flap for bills).

Another cool feature is that when you open them up, you can slide change out from the pouch into the opened hinge. It is he perfect addition to any car, and fits perfectly into the side pocket.

Since then I've put on in each car...

'00 S4 all options w/ cuff from Boston
'87 911 cab w/ a cuff from Italy
'97 Passat VR6 Wagon w/ cuff from Portugal
'87.5 Coupe GT tucked away in the barn (and cuff transfered to the S4)

Default I'd have to see one first...barring that...

I'm looking for a changeholder basically intended to fit in the ashtray recepticle instead of the ashtray itself. I'm never going to allow smoking in the car, so I don't need the tray.

Default Lucky Bastard

I still can't find the coin in the back of mine when I pry it open. It's pretty much useless now and I've forever given up on using it to hold coins with those awful chrome lips on the ashtray that keep me from getting anything out anyway.

Default Those awful chrome lips come off very easily, then stick felt line it, and you have a 1st class coin

tray!

As to the missing coin, try a stick with sticky stuff on the end and probe around, you'll hook it!

Just modify the ashtray, remove chrome, line with felt (for noise), and bingo!

Default Ah, no...what about coin slots?

I live in the Land of Tollbooths. Sorted change is a must.

Default Check the FAQ's - "Interior", "Coin Holder"

There's an Audi/VW coin holder that fits inside the armrest. Works great, you can sort quarter/dimes/nickels, and no worries over stuck ashtrays. I had one for my 96 A4, and switched it over to the S4.
