Default Audi Goodwill program didn't help this time

Background: 2001.5 S4 went out of warranty some time back; now has 54,000 miles on it. I was having some problems with the gas mileage going down. I hooked the VAG-COM up to the car and it told me that one of the EGT sensors was dead. I called Thoroughbred Audi of Nashville up, and they referred me to Audi and gave me a phone number. Gave Audi all of my info, so everything was looking ok.
Fast forward to today. Thoroughbred Audi scanned the car and found that I had a bad EGT sensor. They quoted me $475 to replace the one (!) bad sensor. I declined, then asked about the Goodwill program. I was told that it didn't apply to 2nd owners and EGT sensors. If I had been the first owner, or if something like the catalytic converter had failed, they would have worked with me.
So, my questions are good ones, at least to me. One, is the EGT sensor considered part of the emissions system? If so, it should be covered for 7 years, by law, if what I was told is true. Two, is there any way around this, i.e., get the original owner to take the car in or something?
Obviously, I have to replace them, but I just hate to shell out $200/sensor, and I will replace both.
TIA.

Default You have to get them to check the part# to see if it is covered under the emissions warranty.

Good luck with that;-)
Ford dealers can do something like the goodwill thing twice per vehicle. If the vehicle itself meets the criteria then the owner has to: did he/she buy it from us, are they the first owner, and, believe it or not, the phrase "quality customer" comes up. Then there is the concern itself. If it is one electrical part, no chance. If it's a bad transmission, engine or something really bad that evokes pity from us then your chances are good.

Default Copied what I found online; I'm probably not covered. Still not sure. Owner's manual, here I come.

Federal Emissions Warranty

The Federal Emissions Warranty guidelines are based on federal regulations and apply to vehicles in all 50 states. Vehicles are covered by two types of emissions control system warranty, "Emission Defect Warranty" and "Emissions Performance Warranty".

Depending on the state you live in, the Performance Warranty is for 3 years/50,000 miles. The Defect Warranty is generally consistent with the manufacturer's bumper-to-bumper warranty with certain parts (catalytic converter and electronic emissions controls (PCM) for up to 8 years/80,000 miles. Please refer to your owner's manual for your exact emissions warranty.

Get the ones from Piggie, or get the VW ones and splice them in!

The turbos are considered part of the emission system.
