audi says don't change gearbox fluid. Is this really followed?

Default audi says don't change gearbox fluid. Is this really followed?
Shifting into third at any rpm, i can feel a tick in the shifter....like a slight grind. In several of my other cars, i have just used a better, sometimes thicker gearbox oil. What do you guys use for tranny oil? In previous posts, it looks like redline was a popular choice.

Default Motul Gear 300
or Redline MT-90.

Motul for the tranny and diff.

Redline MT-90 for the tranny, 75W90 for the rear diff.

Default use the Motul. the redline doesn't meet all the Audi gearbox specs, iirc, needing
a GL4/GL5 fluid.

i know folks have used it, but better safe than sorry.

I think redline is fine for the tranny, but not for the rear diff.

I just did a gearbox oil change with Motul Gear 300. Good stuff; worth every penny of the $16/litre
