Any particular reason you removed it?

Default 2 reasons...

1: i frequently carry a surfboard, mtn. bike, or ladder on the roof... and i like not having to worry about smacking the antenna

2: i cover the car daily

in LA isn't not so bad. the FM reception is pretty solid. AM is horrible, but i dont require the traffic report very often so i'm ok.

Default yeah. recently had the side panel off (what a PITA) and cable to that antenna is severed. ARGH

RIGHT at the connector. i have yet to try to fix it as i have ZERO slack between where the cable goes into the wiring loom and where it connects (probably how it severed to begin with).

i think i need a new connector, but don't even know where to begin. it's like a tiny tiny BMC for coax.
and then how the hell do i extend that cable? i guess i can just try to find a butt joint for that size coax. what a PITA!

oh yeah, FM reception is moderately affected. :-)
