Blown axles at the track and need to purchase new ones. Took the old ones off the car and the boots were ripped and grease everywhere. They came with the car when I bought it about 18 months ago. I believe they are like the knockoff chinese made axles. I have found some nice GKN Drivetech axles for $693 shipped. Does anyone know where I can get great axles for a decent price or is that a good deal? Remember I would have to pay a core charge cause I dont have the oem axles.

keep in mind that by having a weaker axle in the car it becomes the weak link in the drivetrain.. some times this is nice. like drag or track where you are puting quick sudden loads on the car... better an axle then a diff.

Well first I will say I don't know if Stage 3 guys blowing stock axles is "normal" - I would think stock axles could handle pretty huge power - Audi is known for building strong drivetrains...
That said I know in Denver I can get my factory axles rebuilt from a highly reputable axle shop for like $60 in 24 hours. If you have some cheapie axles that can't handle the power - and assuming stock genuine OE axles will be fine - maybe get some used axles (I would assume you can get them for about $150 - that is the price I was quoted when I drove my car into a curb one icy morning a year or so ago - I ended up having my axle with a broken basket rebuilt for ~$75) and have them rebuilt if necessary. $700 per seems very steep to me...
Just my thoughts....

I replaced both of mine about a 1k miles ago, and 1 one of them self destructed on me on the highway at 80mph. I returned it in anger to Napa (or whatever that parts store is called) and they gave me a NEW one this time. The others were rebuilt, and my advice is to avoid those like the plague.
I just reinstalled the new one, and will test it out soon - I'm replacing my damn auxiliary pump first - and will let you know how it works out.
IF I need another, I'd buy my from JHM for $130, theirs are new also...

Just take the hit on the core charge and get some OEM rebuilt ones from Raxels or wherever. No sense going with another Chinese knock off part that you already know and have experienced as being faulty/ineffective.

thanks for your help everyone I think i'm just going to try JHM for $270 is worth a shot. Also just for knowledge GKN Driveline is the stock OEM axle that Audi sells. That is why I was going to try them out because I didnt want to risk getting some crap from a chinese company.
