anyone driving in VA (resident or not). 80 mph + or 20 mph over the posted speed limit (with limited exceptions) is statutory reckless.
There is a hefty fine (and even jail time in some cases) for reckless, so $2500 is not unimaginable to me.
Where in VA was this? You need to retain an attorney if you can't make the court date.

I got 85 in a 65 back in 2002 or 2003, good thing i was in the process of slowing down....
I was in college at the time in upstate NY and there was no way I was going to make the court date because of school.
My parents had to hire an attorney (broke *** college student, though i did pay them back during a summer job), I faxed a copy of my class schedule and student ID and the prosecutor had a hard on for the school i went to (RIT), so i got out of it with nothing more than a few hundred dollar speeding ticket, and lawyer fees.
Still virginia is FVCKING gay about speeders, they think they're on some sort of crusade from god.

...as some of us close to Louisiana say about Louisiana: "It's like a foreign country". The same goes for Virginia.
