A colleague of mine just got ticketed in VA for 80+ in a 55...
He received the same charge: reckless driving by speeding
He is an out-of-state resident (lives in MO) and had to pay a little more than $600.
He paid; didn't bother with court.

Dude! - I Travel 2 VA Every Week 4 Work - I Drive My S4 & Use My Radar Detector.....
I could care less about them being illegal there!!!
I've been pinged with laser & KA radar on my way to Richmond from Philly every week. I use a Beltronics V940 radar detector with stealth anti-radar dectecting technology. I've driven by speed traps on I95 and I295 and have had more than enough time to react.
I've even had VA troopers (and local police) drive up and try to pace me. VA troopers are ALWAYS HOT (their radar is on) as they cruise, just like Florida (where I had a vacation home, now sold). How do I know? - Because my radar detector screams KA band (or laser) constantly!!!!
Granted, I've been LUCKY, but VA sucks donkey ***** - the driver (speeder) is at a HUGE DISADVANTAGE!!!
My experience from driving to VA every week since July, If you stay at 80 mph or below, they won't mess with you. Also, if you drive fast on I95 between 4PM and 9PM, troopers usually don't **** w/you. After 9PM, you are jail bait!
They also use various high performance unmarked cars too (Maryland is worse in that category). If you live in VA, with the big fines for residents - YOU'RE ****ED!!!

I'm from the North,that's why I never feel bad that we kicked their butt in the war.
The punishment does not fit the crime. Some places in VA. also harbor illegal immigrants-people of Va. =good, state gov't (sore losers)=bad.
