Default A few questions....

How many miles? What oil have you used? What oil change interval? Ever had the oil analyzed?
My lifters are still very quiet, MY 2000 and 180k.

Default That's a pretty wear intensive interface at the cam/lifter and it may be related to

some other oiling issue that is exacerbated(and fixed) by the oil pump tolerances. I don't know more than that, but I guess I should look into it a bit. Sweet, more work for me!

Why would you pull the head to change lifters?

Default 97K miles

Sound started around 95K miles but got a lot louder in the past week after adding MMO (not blaming on that - it probably just sped up the inevitable).

I change oil every 3K miles using mobil synthetic 5w30. I tried using 10w40 today (to see if it helped) but no luck. I was planning on having the oil analyzed this oil change, but added the MMO so I will wait until next time (I have the test kit already). It seems like this is not a common problem, but it's my luck. I've been meticulous with all maintenance btw in the 3 1/2 years I've owned the car, as was the one owner before me (have all of his records).

Default I found this post regarding the oil pump

It seems to be in an easily accessible location which is very good.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1759332.phtml">Oil Pump</a></li></ul>

Default Only job for me that hasn't been DIY is timing belt.

Seemed a bit too much for me, especially because any problem could result in a lost engine.

I think the engine isn't receiving proper amounts of oil.

Default Not entirely... oil-flow usually goes from the crank to the valvetrain...

It may have enough pressure to lube the crank but not enough to push it's way up to the valvetrain :/

Default I agree... the symptoms now seem like a failing oil-pump.

Sucks man.
