Default Yeah it really sucks that its so difficult to trace the source

I would hate to be in DAPs position of having changed the head gasket & RMS to only have it still leak.

This is the kind of crap where owning an S4 & being a student is very difficult. Those built 2.8s look mighty nice, but probably out of my reach =\

Default short block is just the block, crank, rods, pistons, etc.

long block includes the heads, cams, etc.

Default Definitely sucks, but I guess that's life.

At least I have the luxury of being able to do the work myself.

Just need to get my alternate transportation squared away -- driving a POS '92 Camry wagon at the moment.

Default I'd do the work myself, too, but I'm sure I don't have anywhere near the experience

support nor tools that you do. But your outlook is a good one...in the grand scheme of things its just a car.

Once it's back up & running I'm sure you'll forget about the few months you spent driving a beater =)

Default I didn't have the experience either until I did it the first time. Only one way to learn.

Definitely helped A LOT to have Tony and Mark P around for advice and help though.

Tools are another issue, but then who doesn't want to buy more tools.

Default

Quaker State doesn't make a 0w-40 oil, period. Must be a typo.

You're probably right. I check the box when I get home.

Default I'd prefer to do it under the premise of an upgrade rather than a repair, but oh well

I don't really dread an engine pull, I just don't have alternate transportation. Well that and I'm going to have another "project" car...as if my S4 weren't enough of a project, lol. Tools shouldn't be a big issue, my dad is throwing in the towel & giving me all his tools in a couple months. Yeay! But I guess the key thing I'm missing is experienced help.
