Default Battery Problems

My 2001 S4 has recently been giving me some problems. The car has 21,000 miles on it and is only used on the weekends (if that much). A month ago I went to start it, to find it was completely dead. I had AAA jump start it and it started right up. I let it run for about a half hour, turned it off and couldn't start it again. I brought the car to the dealer where they gave me a new battery. Two weeks later when I went to start the car, it was dead again. Now the Audi dealer is telling me that they can't find anything wrong with the car. They told me that because the S4 is a performance car, I need to start the car every few days in order to keep the battery fresh or invest in a hand held jumper, so I can jump start the car myself. Is it just me, or does this sound absolutely ridiculous? Has anyone had similar problems? Any advice?

Default Ridiculous - make sure the rear dome lights (behind the hump in the roof) are not on -

dealer made that mistake when I went to test drive a car...

Default While I'm no expert, I can't imagine why being a high performance car has anything to do with it.

While 2 weeks is a bit long between charges I expect there is something draining the battery or maybe a bad alternator that's not properly recharging it. I'd try to drive the S regularly if you can for a couple weeks and see if it does any better and then start spacing out your driving until you've backed off to where you want to be and see if the problem comes back. If it continues to die before you start backing off much, as I expect it will, you can go back to the dealer and give'em hell. If not, maybe they're right! :O

If the battery dies again, you'll likely need another but they should cover it under warranty. Most batteries can't handle draining more than once or so.

Default Dealer is wrong.

A dead battery after sitting two weeks is rediculous. I agree with you...dead alternator or something is draining the battery.

Any aftermarket sound system in the car (amps)?

Default Check the fluid level in the battery. They never look at it

when they service the car. If it is low add distilled water. (at least that was what was wrong with mine)

Default RKA is 100% correct. Parasitic drain is most likely, then alternator

Try another dealer.

What a pain.
