Default Bent valve, howto test

Because of the accident, I just heard back from audi that a valve is bent. I towed the car back home. Now I need to figure out what to do next. I am thinking of trying to fix it now, by myself. If I rip off the radiator and radiator support, and try to rotate the engine by hand can I tell if the valves are really bent. When I try and start it all I hear is a click from the starter and thats it. Is there a way to find out before I start ripping the engine apart that they are really bent. Also does anyone have a howto document, like some of the great ones for the timing belts?

How did it bend? By smacking a piston? I think this is beyond a FAQ.

Default i think it needs a new head or some headwork if the timing chain skipped and made the pistons smash

the valves. i got a whole new engine out of it a couple years back...

Default how many teeth did the toothed timing belt (not chain as i blurted out above)

skip? if its more than 1 or 2 teeth...i'm pretty damn sure there is quite a bit of damage.

Did the accident tear your timing belt?

Default Re: Bent valve, howto test

if you had a front end colision, you bent at least 12 intakes, sometimes the center intake valve does not get hurt. in a real bad hit, it WILL bend all of them. In a front end hit, the timing belt jumps and your cam timing is WAY off.

Default Try to turn over the engine by hand. If you can't, most likely a piston is hitting a valve or

the valvetrain is binding(bent valve not sliding in its guide) BTW DO NOT FORCE IT or you will bend more.
