RS4 designed for our engine ?, hmm, I know at least one tuner website that says otherwise

My setup runs fine. It's a bit rich, but I'm pretty sure that's an MTM stg IV thing.

Default After reading the RS4 study guide, I can see a critical difference between the RS4 intake/fuel rail

setup. I don't think they are the shizzle any more.

Default The stg IV stoftware is tuneable and requires less hardware.

You can't get past using an MBC or an MBC in parallel to raise boost which is the biggest drawback over stage V. Not using headgaskets could get sketchy or it might work out great.

Default Elaborate please?

Do you mean you see a critical difference between the RS4 intake/fuel rail and the S4 intake/fuel rail, or with regard to the RS4 injectors as well?

Default Is the only difference between the two that stage V runs higher boost, and hence the thicker

headgasket to lower compression and avoid pre-ignition?

Default The spray pattern of the RS4 injector is made to spray straight down the RS4 port

right on top of the valve. The RS4 intake's injector bosses are machined to have the injectors tilted into the intake port. The fuel rail also helps facilitate this angle. S4 injectors sit straight up so installing RS4 injectors in an S4 setup will tilt the spray pattern closer to the intake port walls.

Default That's the major difference. Stg V is also spec'd with RS4 Y pipe, maf, airbox.

You HAVE to use the RS4 maf no matter what box you have. You could probably forego everything else, but skipping the headgaskets are the only thing that scares me. It might work out, it might not. Also the archives seem to be filled with a lot of stage V complaints. Kidjoey (IIRC) is the only guy here who seems satisfied with his power output.
Stg IV has some cheerleaders here and I must say that since I have maf voltage as high as Stg IV software likes it, my car is very fast. Expect no more power on homebrewed stg IV than the GIAC homebrew guys. Torque past 6500 rpm may end up a little better with MTM but don't hold me to that.

Default are you sure it uses the RS4 maf/Y pipe?

I've seen stuff that makes me think it isn't required. Isn't kiddjoey using an S4 maf/y-pipe? Also, it looks like at least the european version uses the stock maf:

mtm
