Big oil leak

my car has a huge oil leak, I noticed a pool of oil under the front of the car yesterday, when I checked it it was halfway between min and max, is this a problem? does it need to be all the way? also, can I add nonsynthetic oil to it as a stopgap until I take it in.

Use semi-synth, but do not use any sort of stop-leak products!

Is the sump cracked? Do you know where it is leaking from.
