It's better to use a bypass valve which recirculates the air, rather than dumping.
Some people will argue with me, but I've seen small vacuum leaks cause fuel mixture problems. I would hate to see what dumping a bunch of metered air would do.<p>Brad Bilut, A4 98.5 2.8QXTipPES

i just installed the Bailey EVO(blowoff valve),after extensively researching the bosch motronic engine management on our cars!!! the NEW bosch system has a dual flow mass air meter, this meter not only reads incoming air but also air backing up past it(ie when recirculated air is sent back into the intake tract it theoretically reverts back past the meter--the meter then subtracts this amount of air from its reading)...i have installed the EVO valves on my car with no driveability problems or codes!!it is a dual piston design and does not let any air past it at idle!!!but be warned thes things are noisy(sounds like the tuned S4 on gran turismo---would be totally out of place on a stock appearing/sounding car)...if a race theme or the sound doesnt bother you go for it, if it does stick with the BAILEY recirculating valve for your upgrade!!!

when comparing stock(junk) valves to the Bailey this becomes immediately obvious!!!by venting more air boost should rise faster between shifts!!!
