Blown away by a 2003 Mustang Cobra

see the problem with that reasoning is that a Corvette has handling, aerodynamics and brakes that the Mustang cant dream of. I raced a CobraR which was race prepped and he actually went off trying to stay ahead of my CIVIC!
It's just such a crude cobble-together...any car can be MADE fast...the reason people spend more on an all-around tighter package is that it's just...better.
I've seen plenty of fast Mustangs on race tracks (not talking about drag strips) but they coulda had something faster for less.
What I'd like to see is Ford build a true Corvette competitor instead of simply making their already too fast (for its underpinnings) Mustang faster.
I predict that the new Cobra is going to have the highest insurance premium this side of a Viper.

It has serious (!) chassis problems, I'm just saying it's a very good bang for the buck, particularly when straight-line speed is your thing (which is the topic that started this thread - acceleration). They can be forced into pretty decent track cars (that's where mine's going now), but like anything, driver is important. Also, there are far more crappy parts available than good parts, so those who are easily sold by shiny brochures end up with dangerously ill-handling cars (Saleen is a great example - their stuff is overpriced re-badged CRAP).
I too want to see a top-flight sports car from Ford, but the Mustang is intended as an inexpensive pony car and does a bang-up job of it. A Griggs-suspended Mustang with chassis reinforcement makes a very fun track car platform - gobs of power are easy to make.

just AFTER that family was discontinued...DOOH!
Gawd I hope Ford does the GT40 right...that has to be the only car on the boards that MIGHT be within my forseeable budget that I REALLY want.
Has quite a few strikes against it (dealer for instance) but that is exactly what I want in a car.

I only said it could be done and that's the last time I post #'s without my trusty R&T next to me. Still with the R&T #'s I wasn't far off and it was my *** I pulled those #'s out of.

They added the limiter (155mph) for the '03. John Coletti of SVT says without it 175-180 would be the top end. I put my deposit down 3 weeks ago!!
