The subject is my question. How could one compare the m5 to the s4 w/ the stage 2 upgrade (performance wise) My stage 2 also has a 20% shift reduction. Also, anyone know a quarter mile time for the stage 2? Thanks all night owls!

Besides having a higher peak torque (about 30lb/ft more), the S4's torque curve has far more area under it. It hits the peak very low and holds it.
The S4 also has 300 fewer pounds - and let's not forget Quattro.
Like I said, it would be a very close race.

Yes, I know it's just bench racing. But the numbers are not really in the M5's favor. MotorTrend has the M5 running a 13.2s ET. You're telling me that an S4 with an exhaust and chip can't do that? I'd bet that it could, or at the very least come close. And as the racers know - a close loss on paper can easily become a close win in reality.
And, as a flame extinguisher, I'm not saying that the M5 isn't seriously fast. It's a frikkin rocket! But it is NOT the be-all and end-all of sport sedans the magazines have made it out to be.

I had an M5 that couldn't hang with me this weekend at TWS. Coming out of turn 12 I would pull him and be about 4-5 car lengths ahead of him by the end of the straight.
I would say a stageII S4 (6spd) is AS fast as an M5...it comes down to driver.
