3.0 litre I6 with permanent 4-wheel-drive.
Seems like a good competitor for the Audi A4/S4 Avants. (Audi content)

Come on guys, don't be prejudiced. You have to admit (m)
the Bimmers are real drivers cars and the X SUV's are some of the best of the breed. Now, if you don't like the breed, thats a separate thing than saying all BMWs suck or you would never own one.

A better question.. what % of readers here REALLY take
their vehicle offroad.. and I'm not talking a dirt driveway.. Perhaps people need to stop listening to the advertising hype designed to 'scare' you into needing an all terrain daily driver..
If you are going off road, buy an OFF road vehicle. If you are going to tow a huge trailer, buy a proper tow vehicle.. if you are going to commute to work, and it occasionaly snows, buy a car and some snow tires..
Years ago I took my wifes Pathfinder in for service to address cupping right side tires, and I casually mentioned that more than 1/2 of the miles on the vehicle were put on it while it was in 4 wheel drive.. the service dept looked at me like I had 5 heads.. they asked why, and I simply said I live on a gravel road up a mountain in Northen VT.. and it snows from October to May.. it's a little slick.. they confided that few if any of the 4 wheel vehicles they sell actually ever engaged 4 wheel drive.
Brings me back to my point.. Why another SUV? why not a nice wagon that has all wheel drive to assist in traction?

Re: Well, it has some off-road capability and better ground clearance than other quattros...
Yeah, are you sure that the new X3 doesn't have better ground clearance than the 330xi?
I wouldn't drive either of them, but be fair, the All-Road be good, but the X5 and X3 pointless?
