Bonehead move of the day: Cracked Windshield :-(
I was replacing the passenger side wiper (out of warranty) when the wiper slipped and wiper had already been removed. The bare metal came crashing down and cracked the windshield. There is already a 5 inch crack going staright up, and I'm sure its going to spread since its real cold here in NY. Anyone know what it costs to replace the windshield? Thanks!

If you do a search on PPG, you'll probably find it's about $250.
Dealer prices for OEM glass might be slightly higher, but most folks here prefer the PPG glass. Apparently it's slightly harder, therefore more resistant to the "sandblasting" effect that you'll see on OEM glass after 30K miles of highway driving.

According to the PPG catalog, it's $501 for a new windshield -- see link. My insurance company paid an installer about $150 to install a windshield about a year ago. Check with your insurance company -- if NY is like FL, windshield replacement is a no-cost no-questions proposition.

http://www.ppgautoglass.com/catalog/pdf/Parts_Bulletin0415-02.pdf</a
