Default I like Catia believe it or not,

unfortunately, Pro-E is the weapon of choice at work and most of our contractors have switched to solid works. Hopefully I'll be getting up to speed on Solid Works soon and switching over to it too.

Default You'll like SolidWorks.

It's cake compared to Catia. You get the same thing done in less mouse clicks.

Funny to hear that, we moved from Pro-E to SolidWorks because all of our clients were doing that.

Curious how many designers are on this forum, and what they use. I use NX4

Default Funny to hear that, Solidworks owns a steady 8% or so of the solid modeling market for years now...

Its bread and butter is the small business space, which is really a tiny fraction of the overall number of "seats" in the industry.

For large designs, Solidworks is terrible (poor assembly performance). For small designs, one-offs, etc, it's great.

Nowadays, almost all solid modeling programs are pretty comparable, and have similar workflows anyway. If you can use one, it won't take long to learn another.

The solid modeler market is basically saturated now too; no large companies that use such software want to switch from one software package to another because of the years and years of data they have accrued; migrating that stuff is costly. Most companies that sell solid modeling software are trying to push their data management software instead.

Default I have to agree with Solidworks having issues with large assemblies.

Our 10,000 part model is slooooooooww.

Default Ha, a 10,000 part assembly is nothing =)

A lot of people out there hate Pro/ENGINEER for unknown reasons (I think a lot of it has to do with PTC's attitude back in the day), but there is nothing better when it comes to large assemblies.
