Damn. I better start working on that 3D laser scanner and do it myself
I have been wanting to build this thing for large scale
objects, like cars. One laser beam, two cameras on stepper
mottors with the appropriate number of degrees of freedom.
It will be like a "carwash" mechanism but hooked to a computer
to do the math for screen-to-Cartesian coordinates.
It would take some callibration and a lot of testing
to make it work, but it could be a fun and profitable
homebrew project.

I agree. 10,000 is not that large, and SW already starts to bog down.
We had no problem bringing up the entire Champcar when I worked at Swift Engineering. We were on SDRC master series and that was over 10 years ago.
