Both oxygen sensors broken at the same time?

All,
it's been a while since I posted here, I hope someone can lend a hand regardless. My S4 is quickly approaching its 5th birthday and is starting to show its age. For a while I've had the check engine light come on and vag-com told me it involved the fuel trim and oxygen sensors. I got a refurb MAF from Clair and that cleared things up for a while. Then the light came on again. This time both sensors #1 are showing intermittent failures. I can understand that one set of wiring would be marginal but both? One broken sensor but both?
Could it be that both sensors were damaged by the broken MAF? Some other systematic problem?
Thanks for any tips. I have scheduled an appointment with a good VAG shop in the area (New Dimensions) but I'd like to have some more knowledge under my belt when dropping of the car.
Thanks!

No, logged appointment request on ND site. Haven't heard yet but it's only been since this morning. You got my alignement problem fixed a while back.

Congrats on having your own place now! I'll drop you a line tomorrow. As an FYI PA is rather out of the way to work (Fremont) but jobs change

Never had a CE light and no impact on performance, the resistance check is just a diagnostic test and yours are probably just borderline out of range, but the O2 sensors are still switching (operating) fine otherwise you would see other codes... I eventually put new O2 sensors in my car and these codes went away.
