Can someone provide some clarity to this? What are realistic times for a non-galati type driver (but someone well versed in standard trans.) for a 1/4 with only Exhaust and chip? He provided some references to past AW postings below :
Stock S4 does 1/4 mile in 14.1, Chipped does it in high 13's. That is not worth it?

Man, I am a little dissapointed by the difference in speed over stock with a chipped car. YOu would think the 1/4 mile would lose a second with 370lbft of torque and over 300bhp. Also, the mph through the 1/4 mile is not that much better. A chipped car would only inch, yes inch away from a stock S4, and driver skill could make up the difference. I think a lot of people FEEL like they are going a lot faster with the chip. BUt all they are feeling is the torque. Aren't the stage 1 MTM's faster than high 13's. I am not voiding warranty for just a little more speed. Please respond .
Stock, my car turns 14.20's at 98mph, APR chiped/Scorpion Exhaust - 13.68 at 102.3 - More

I have raced three stock S4's at the track I go to (Union Grove Dragaway in Wisconsin) and my car running 13.60-13.70 pulls 4-6 car lengths inthe quarter. They come out equal, and the chipped car keeps pulling away. On the way home one night, we raced (PLEASE NO FLAMES - 12am, open four lane highway) up a straight on ramp and until I hit 140mph and he hit about 120. By this time, I hade 20 car lengths. My friend said he couldn't even tell what type of car I was in, let alone read the plate. He ran out and bought a chip.

Can someone please explain to me why.
The APR Stage II S4 with 319hp does the qtr mile in 13.73. A stock Euro M3 does it in 13.3. Now, I believe the new M3 is going to be based on the Euro engine but with 343 bhp & weigh less than the current M3. Officially BMW say that it is going to be 0.1 seconds quicker than the M5 to 60mph. Seeing as the M5 does 0-60 between 4.6 & 4.8 seconds, means that the new M3 is going to do 0-60 in around 4.7 & qtr mile between 12.8-13.0. What are the best qtr mile times for chipped S4's out there?

a chip makes a huge difference in our cars for an average driver.
There is nothing in today's market that can improve a car's performance like a chip for the S4. Naturally aspirated cars like BMWs cannot reduce the 1/4 times like our unless there are extensive modification like a blower.
I've shead close to .7 seconds with the chip. This equates to about 7 car lengths after the 1/4 mile. I've also gained about 5 mph faster. This should equate to close to 50 hp at the wheel.
