Default Bumping noise whilst driving

Hi,

I have a strange problem with my car. Thought I
would try and pick your brains before the
dealership (90GBP an hour here).

I have what can only be described as a bumping
noise when moving forwards, like what it would
sound like if you had something stuck in the tyre.

It seems to originate from the centre-front area

It starts at +20mph and the bumping increases in
frequency proportional to the vehicle speed.

Independent of engine speed or load.

Happens when the brakes are applied as well (i.e
it's not a warped disk)

Seems to get slighly louder on banked turns (left and right)

Occurs with the clutch in or out.

Occurs with the engine switched off.

So, I think it's somewhere in the transmission or
driveshafts&CVs ;-)

Any thoughts?

(I checked the tranny oil level and it was a little low but that's now been topped up and the
noise still persists)

Thanks,

Jon

Gone over this a thousand times. Hooker in the trunk is NOT dead! Take care of that ASAP.

Default Hmm could be this.

<center><img src="http://wut2c.com/Video_clips/trunk%20monkey.jpg"></center><p>just messin' sorry...could be a number of things

But from the way you describe it...it sounds like the sort of thing that happens when you get snow on the inside of your wheels...but i doubt thats the case this time of year. Im assuming you already did a quick look over of all the components under the front of the car?

Default That's possible, but I think it's something under the hood.

Default I had a bubble in the inner wall of one of my tires that made a similar noise

I didnt see it until I got it up on a lift. It was a good thing I found it when I did, because if it had burst, it would have been bad.......

Default Had center diff go on my old 1.8t, only chipped, was not "found" till it broke 40k >>>

later due to warranty lag. Could also be, any other rotating object on the car. It it a fast bump, slow bump, metal sound, rubber sound, loud, soft? Good Luck
