C&D Comparo S4 (barely) beats WRX with 330iX last
Latest comparo from C&D. Overall they loved the S4 but the little Suburu at $24.5K gave it a run. Some stats: [Copyright C&D of course]

I knowit...it's BS...
I don't know WHAT they're doing to those cars but suddenly they're getting 330ix's faster than E36M3s and the Scoobies are picking up .1 per test.
Consider the specs of a 330ix vs the last E36 M3 they tested (which ran 6.0 to 60 and 14.8 in the 1/4) and draw your own conclusions...more HP, less weight, 2WD driveline and it's slower...HMMMMMMMMMMM.
AM I making this stuff up?

It was well known in the 1960's that the big US automakers would give "tuned" cars to the magazines.
Lots of advertising guys and former auto industry execs admitted in interviews in later years that the cars given to the motoring press were almost always "hopped-up" or "tuned" to give better performance, in various ways.
I would have to agree with NASA racer, that this conduct may still be going on.

I still kinda happens in Japan too...
Sometimes you'll see videos of tests with "stock" cars with bigass HKS intakes and exhausts (and god knows what else you can't see)... but the reviewers will just kinda laugh and test them anyways 
One time they looked into the engine compartment and started busting up because the car had a bigass aftermarket turbo in it :P
This usually happens when they're testing a Japanese car against a foreign (usually German) car that is way out of its league (ie Skyline GT-R vs 996 TT).
